Have you made the skincare change from Summer into Winter? Michealla Bolder shares her top Winter skincare tips and explains the importance of keeping skin hydrated.
What happens to skin in Winter?
Our skin changes with the seasons, becoming drier, dehydrated and typically lacking lustre. Unwanted breakouts, inflammation and damaged tissue (including Rosacea) are all signs of our skin reacting to new changes.
Winter, in particular, plays havoc with our skin. From the cold damp air, transitioning from the heat into the cold and vice versa, constant heating, aircon blowing, clothing friction, irritating scarfs and hats are all culprits to the changes.
Winter skincare
It is super important that we make changes to our skincare routine to help prevent drastic changes in the way our skin behaves.
Switch to a balm or oil cleanser
Switching your cleanser to a balmy or oil texture is the best way to begin your Winter skincare routine. A nourishing and hydrating cleanser won’t strip the skin of its natural oils, but instead will work towards replacing them.
Top Tip: If you’re using an active cleanser to treat skin concerns, use this cleanser for your second cleanse.
Use a Hyaluronic Acid serum
Layering your facial serums has never been so rewarding as it is in Winter months. Pushing a double dose of Hyaluronic Acid into your daily routine will help to rebuild the skin’s barrier function by holding onto water within the skin cells for longer, and strengthening the outermost layer of skin that takes most of the environmental damage.
The St.Tropez Purity Vitamins Face Serum is the perfect way to hold on to your favourite Hyaluronic serum and introduce your Winter skincare glow. This hero solution contains:
- A daily shot of Hyaluronic acid
- A low dose of Vitamin C to improve radiance without drying the skin
- Vitamin D boosters which are essential to improving skin health
- Peach Extract which provides a boost of antioxidants
All of these natural ingredients are blended with the tropical scent of Summer and a hit of self tan. This serum provides skin with an important dose of Hyaluronic Acid, while taking your deep Summer tan into a healthy Winter glow.

Switch to a rich moisturiser
Here’s a great winter skincare tip: up your moisturiser game to a richer, fuller consistency. It will offer your skin long-lasting hydration. You should also incorporate a facial oil into your nighttime routine to replace lost oils within the skin. This will deeply nourish and repair the skin cells while you get your beauty sleep.
Exfoliate twice a week
Your Winter skincare routine should care for your body too. Exfoliate 2-3 times a week, then use a rich body cream containing Shea Butter to really moisturise those dry skin cells.

Why tan in Winter
When I am bronzed, I will happily pull out a dress or skirt any time of year. When I feel my best, it makes me feel ready to take on anything… and why shouldn’t we feel our best all year long?!
“My tan is my first layer of clothing no matter what time of the year it is. It simply makes me feel better about myself, my appearance and my body.”
Best fake tan for Winter
I switch up my self-tanning solutions the same way I do my skincare. I opt for a formula that contains Hyaluronic Acid to immediately add a boost of hydration to my skin as I apply a fresh layer of tan. The result? A healthy glowing tan that lasts longer!
The Purity Vitamins Body Mist (just like the facial serum) is formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin D boosters, making it the perfect addition to your Winter skincare arsenal. Its elongated nozzle also makes those hard-to-reach areas a doddle (tanning your back has never been so easy!) and is almost like spray tanning in your own home!

Best dark fake tan
For those who like a deeper, richer finish, I would recommend using the Express Gel as part of their Winter skincare. Its hydrating formula and easy-to-apply gel texture gives the skin a gorgeous light tan in 1 hour, medium tan after 2 hours and a rich dark tan after 3 hours. Better yet, it infuses the skin with that essential hero ingredient, Hyaluronic Acid!
