Does fake tan come off when you sweat? It’s a common query, but fear not! There’s no reason why you can’t keep your golden glow while getting a sweat on. With our top tips on how to stop fake tan sweating onto your clothes, there’s no need to worry about sweating after a spray tan or using your favorite self tanner when you hit the gym this year.
How to stop fake tan sweating onto your clothes
1. Apply talcum powder
We all thought that our days of using talcum powder were behind us. But, did you know that when it comes to sweating after a spray tan, a dusting of talcum or baby powder can be your best friend?
Use a large fluffy brush to apply powder to areas such as the elbows, knees and underarms that are exposed to friction and sweat during your gym session. The powder will absorb sweat and prevent any tan from transferring onto your clothes.
2. Top up between tan applications with a gradual tan
If you’re a regular gym-goer and want to prevent fading between spray tans or self tan applications, our St.Tropez Gradual Tan may be just the thing for you. Quick-drying and buildable, our gradual tan moisturiser can be applied daily to keep your tan topped up while treating skin to an extra dose of hydration. Also available in a Medium to Dark formula, you can find your perfect shade and forget any worries about your tan fading while you work out!
3. Wear breathable activewear
The clothes you wear while working out can help to protect your glow from streaking. Seamless, breathable activewear allows sweat to evaporate so that it isn’t sat against your skin. A loose tracksuit will also stop sweat from fading your fresh tan.
4. Follow your gym session with a shower
As sweat is acidic, it can cause self tan to break down when left to sit on the skin. To prevent this, hop in the shower straight after your workout. If possible, rinse with lukewarm water. Hot water can make your skin dry out, causing your tan to fade faster. From day 2 of tanning, we recommend gently buffing your skin in the shower with our Exfoliating Mitt to promote an even fade and reduce the chance of streaks.
5. Keep skin moisturised for a sweat-proof fake tan
As any tanning pro can tell you, the secret to a long-lasting glow is to keep skin healthy and hydrated. After showering, treat your skin to a generous dollop of Tanning Enhancing Body Moisturiser. Getting into a regular moisturising routine can help to prevent your tan from fading for up to 3 days.
6. Worried about ruining your bedsheets? Use a tanning water
As well as concerns about sweating fake tan off at the gym, we get a lot of questions about how to keep your sheets clean when tanning. All of our tanning waters have clear formulas, so if you’re worried about transfer onto your bedsheets, opt for our Purity Vitamins Bronzing Water Body Mist or another tan from our Purity range.
Their non-tinted formulas mean that there’s no transfer, and with their subtle tropical scent there’s no tell-tale sign of tanning! Just remember that they still need to be kept away from contact with sweat and water for 8 hours after application while your glow gradually develops. Self tan doesn’t stain, so don’t worry if you’re wearing a tinted tan and get some transfer on your clothes or sheets – it will come out in the wash!
7. Too late? We’ve got your back
Made a mistake, or didn’t know the talcum powder trick? When a streaky tan has gone beyond the possibility of repair, it’s a good idea to have our Tan Remover Mousse to hand so you can remove any trace of a patchy tan. The easiest way to remove self tan, it’s suitable for sensitive skin and balances the skin’s pH, leaving you with the perfect canvas for a fresh tan application.
Once you’re equipped with a sweat proof fake tan and know how to stop self tan sweating onto your clothes, you can look forward to hitting the gym this year while maintaining a beautiful, golden glow.
